In contrast to large parts of Central Europe with a focus on Germany and Austria, the\u00a0bark beetle calamity\u00a0in the Baltic States is comparatively insignificant.<\/em><\/p>\n

In Lithuania, the bark beetle population decreased by 11% in 2019 compared to 2018. The summer generation in August 2019 even decreased by 35% compared to 2018.<\/p>\n

Comparable results have also been reported from Latvia.\u00a0The reason for this was the high proportion of mixed mixed forest areas in the Baltic States.\u00a0Compared to pure spruce forests, these forests offer greater ecological elasticity and poorer living conditions for insects which attack individual tree species.\u00a0The beetle calamity would \"run away\" on its own.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0timber market\u00a0in the Baltic States is therefore comparatively stable.\u00a0Due to the European market situation, however, slightly falling softwood timber prices are also reported from the Baltic States.<\/p>\n

The relatively good production capacity at pellet plants, however, was able to partially compensate for this effect due to constantly high demand.\u00a0Regional price differences result from different distances to ports and train stations as well as pellet plants.\u00a0This is typical for the Baltic States.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
