Tolko Industries says it will permanently close its Kelowna mill on Jan. 8, after it was indefinetely curtailed in September.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

CEO Brad Thorlakson says wherever possible, employees will be offered positions at other Tolko locations that have vacancies.<\/p>\n

The company cited log costs, market conditions and other factors for its decision.<\/p>\n

The mill has been operating for nearly 80 years.<\/p>\n

The company says it wants to assure customers that Tolko\u2019s marketing and sales team will continue to support them.<\/p>\n

In September, Tolko announced that it is implementing a flexible operating footprint at its Soda Creek and Armstrong stud lumber mills, which will reduce the company\u2019s operating stud capacity by 20%.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
