Nordic pellet prices have reached a fresh record high ahead of the winter demand season, with the supply outlook in the first quarter looking somewhat \u201cunclear\u201d.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The October Pix Pellet Nordic index, which reflects prices gathered since the middle of last month, was last assessed at EUR 33.52\/MWh, up 18% on the year and the highest level since the\u00a0Finland-based industry index provider Foex launched the index in October 2009.<\/p>\n

''The last quarter seems well covered by the utilities, but first quarter 2020 is more unclear'', Foex said, noting consumers were now relying on their contracted deliveries instead of purchasing spot cargoes.<\/p>\n

''[They will] wait to see how winter develops,'' the firm said, adding it was also unclear when some new units co-firing with biomass would come online.<\/p>\n

''[This is] making hard to have more exact consumption estimates for this season.''.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, utilities were generally well-prepared ahead of winter. ''Some [end-users] would even be able to sell if there was a buyer available,'' Foex said.<\/p>\n

Foex's prices are based on actual sales in the previous month and include cost, insurance and freight to Baltic or North Sea or delivery duty unpaid for truck or rail deliveries.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
