The German producer prices for commercial wood products in July now clearly show the consequences of the bark beetle infestation for the prices of lumber. As the construction industry continues to enjoy robust growth, the cause of the fall in prices remains only the cheap raw materials that depresses the markets.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

On a month to month comparison there is a mixed picture with only weak increases in prices for some products.\u00a0Only five values \u200b\u200bhave risen, the highest being lumber at + 0.70%.\u00a0Eight have not changed since June.\u00a013 values \u200b\u200bhave dropped.\u00a0The strongest downtrends were reported wide boards\u00a0as well as HDF boards with declines between 2-3%.<\/p>\n

The year-on-year comparison is even stronger in the red area.\u00a0Ten values \u200b\u200bhave risen, 16 have fallen.\u00a0Leader among the rising values \u200b\u200bare hardwood lumber as well as window and door frames with increases of up to 3%. Negatively\u00a0affected is the entire softwood lumber area, almost all wood-based materials as well as wood chips and pallets.\u00a0The biggest drops are showing raw chipboard, wide boards and pallets, followed by wood chips and storage wood with price reductions between 6% and over 10%.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/colgroup>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
