Some products will be also subject to tariffs with effect from 15 December.<\/p>\n<p>The new tariffs will target 5,078 products<span id=\"more-20916\"><\/span>, including soybeans, coffee, whiskey, seafood and crude oil. Some timber products are also on the list.<\/p>\n<p>According to news released by American Hardwood Export Council, some timber products to be affected by this round of duties include major hardwood products such as beech logs and birch logs below 15cm.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/r20.rs6.net\/tn.jsp?f=0012YDYd-HIZFchuBQoe6WmRBlpp2qHdk1eAubIwtL65nSJnsx0_M1CPFqzujr7a9zW0PRO1fm1B8dVrbhFnYUPdy8KDzD2YkOPFxk1WeRo_63mBU6ArtzdDH7EDTikhyDLFIW5ZNelcUQLnTmlnO_hHzodwMfz2cftJNnMrztUiGLvBG73oStqh5z-G_k9IUMSKKe8hkb2fKjfu9nyqa_YuZCkYLzOXWNYjmcLGfED8-RuHEFu73bCgbNpMvxOymcj&amp;c=9So_l-RDPc2XiSn4zp_mdY8ZeATA-N2QkAF6ILPFaynWPOg2vneugg==&amp;ch=c6UkCvtjHVcaZCOoP1NjSOAkYcNWWUsgDSYwI_QzdsuMn8xy53UZ5w==\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE \u00a0ENGLISH TRANSLATION\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NHLA also stated in their news release that all tariff levels in the document are subject to change without prior notice and there is a possibility more products could be announced. The AHEC team in Hong Kong is working with the US Embassy in Beijing to clarify the situation and provide updates as developments are made. NHLA will pass along these updates as soon as they receive them.<\/p>\n<p>Upon review, many of the HS codes refer to products (including tropical timbers) that were not previously included in the tariffs. However, some US hardwood products already at 5%, 20%, or 25% tariff will receive an additional 10% or 5% tariff. Some of the main products are:<\/p>\n<p>44079980 \u2013 \u201cOther Temperate Non-Coniferous Lumber\u201d \u2013 10% on Sept 1st (was at 20%)<\/p>\n<p>44012200 \u2013 \u201cHardwood Chips or Pellets\u201d \u2013 10% on Dec 15th (was at 25%)<\/p>\n<p>44039300, 44039400 \u2013 \u201cBeech Logs\u201d \u2013 10% on Dec 15th (not previously included)<\/p>\n<p>44039600 \u2013 \u201cBirch Logs &lt;15cm diameter\u201d \u2013 10% on Dec 15th (not prev. included)<\/p>\n<p>44039950 \u2013 \u201cAsh Logs\u201d \u2013 10% on Dec 15th (not prev. included)<\/p>\n<p>44079930 \u2013 \u201cNorth American Hardwood Lumber\u201d inc., Maple, Black Walnut, Western Red Alder, Yellow Poplar \u2013 5% on Dec 15th (was at 5%)<\/p>\n<p>44089011 \u2013 \u201cOther non-coniferous, non-tropical veneer\u201d \u2013 5% on Dec 15th (was at 20%)&lt;<\/p>\n<p>One important note: in many databases the 44079930 HS code lists Cherry lumber as an example. However, in previous rounds of Chinese tariffs, Cherry lumber was listed specifically at 20% with HS code 44079400. As of today, the interpretation is that an additional 5% will not be applied to Cherry, even though it is an example in many HS code databases. For the purpose of previous tariffs, this \u201cNorth American Hardwood Lumber\u201d category included walnut, maple, yellow poplar, western red alder, and \u201cother temperate species\u201d besides oak, ash, and cherry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>President Trump's response<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The retaliatory tariffs came about after the U.S. announced it would impose 10% tariffs on Chinese imports worth $300 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. postponed the implementation of about half of those tariffs, which will cover several categories of Chinese-made consumer goods, until December.
