The new EU implementing directive 2019\/523 of 21 March 2019 (available on request) concerns the protection measures against the introduction into the Community of organisms harmful to plants or plant products and against the spread in the Community.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The pests \"Gesmithia soft Kolarik, Freeland, Utely & Tisserat\" and its carrier \"Pityophthorus juglandis Balckman\" have infested several US states by raising a 6-year moratorium on export unless the logs are treated (check below) .<\/p>\n

From September 1st, therefore, the US logs will suffer strong increases for the aforementioned mandatory treatments if they come from infested states, described as follows:<\/p>\n

6 years of survey data prepared by Forest Service. The following eastern states are infested:<\/strong>

\nNew Jersey<\/p>\n

This leaves the far south and the far north free from pests.
\nThe west coast is excluded from pests up to Colorado.<\/p>\n

Here are the official requirements.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If a state can declare the entire state free (in accordance with ISPM 4 and 29) from the following pests of concern, and have the EU recognize such \"pest free area\", the following requirements apply, in force since September 1, 2019:<\/p>\n

(Soft geosmithia) Thousand Cankers disease (Pityophthorus juglandis) Walnut-tree beetle.<\/p>\n

Juglans spp. logs, timber, wood:<\/p>\n

1) the wood has undergone an adequate heat treatment to reach a minimum temperature of 56 \u00b0 C for a minimum duration of 40 minutes continuous throughout the wood profile.
\n'HT' markings on wood or casing, documented treatment on PC<\/p>\n

or<\/p>\n

2) the wood has been squared to completely remove the natural rounded surface<\/p>\n

Juglans spp. isolated bark and wood in the form of shavings, particles, sawdust, shavings, wood waste and scrap:<\/p>\n

1) has undergone an adequate heat treatment to reach a minimum temperature of 56 \u00b0 C for a minimum duration of 40 minutes continuous throughout the profile of the bark or wood.

The above requirements also apply to Wingnut (Pterocarya) wood products.<\/p>\n
