China\u2019s economic downturn is impacting sales of wood products and under present market conditions there is growing over-capacity in the sector. Consumption of wood products has declined and supply exceeds demand.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Analysts suggest that mill capacity utilisation has fallen to only 50% in many plants. Much of the weakened demand is the result of lower housing starts brought on by tighter credit conditions. This is especially noticeable in the economically developed coastal areas such as Shandong, Jiangsu and Guangdong Povinces where house prices have fallen. Timber consumption has also been impacted by lower investment rural housing as many low cost housing projects have suffered budget cuts.<\/p>\n

The most important factors currently affecting the Chinese timber market:<\/p>\n

1. The economic downturn is obvious, overcapacity, and market demand is obviously insufficient;<\/span><\/p>\n

2. The exchange rate of the US dollar continues to be high, and the rising factor is still uncertain;<\/p>\n

3. The demand in the Chinese market is decreasing, and supply exceeds demand;<\/p>\n

4. The factory operating rate is 50%;<\/p>\n

5. Real estate investment tightened, timber demand decreased significantly, especially in coastal economically developed areas such as Shandong, Jiangsu and Guangdong, housing prices fell, real estate loans were limited, and housing operating rates were significantly insufficient;<\/p>\n

6. The shantytown project transformation is basically completed;<\/p>\n

7. The special towns and new rural projects have been significantly reduced;<\/p>\n

8. The environmental protection investigation has continued to improve, and the shutdown rate of factories in major furniture manufacturing areas such as Guangdong, Chengdu and Jiangsu has reached 40%;<\/p>\n

9. The import specifications of wood processing outside Ukraine and Russia are significantly increased, and the price is lower;<\/p>\n

10. More provinces opened the China-European class to further influence the shipments and prices of major land ports and port markets.<\/p>\n
