<\/span>\"EU countries could export more to the US for additional US tariffs on Chinese imports if Chinese exports go away. However, both the positive effects for Germany, the EU and the US, as well as the negative consequences for China, are limited, \"explains Ifo (the Munich-based economic institute) researcher Marina Steininger. \"The US-China trade war, however, has harmful side effects for everyone, because it further weakens the confidence of investors and consumers worldwide in an already fragile global economy,\" says Ifo President Clemens Fuest.<\/p>\n

Should the US impose 10 percent tariffs on additional $ 300 billion worth of imports, this would mean \u20ac 94 million more revenue for Germany, \u20ac 129 million for France, \u20ac 183 million for Italy, \u20ac 25 million for Spain, and \u20ac 86 million for the United Kingdom Euro. For the EU28 it would be 1.5 billion euros, for the US 1.8 billion. China would have losses of 24.8 billion euros.<\/p>\n

\"The reason for this result is that unilateral US tariff increases favor their producers and increase government revenues,\" says Steininger. At the same time, however, US consumers could suffer as tariffs weaken household purchasing power and lower real wages. But in some cases previously imported goods would be replaced by domestic production, as imported goods would be more expensive due to customs duties. \"As a result, imports are falling while demand for domestic goods is rising (see scenario 1) and overall there are positive real income effects,\" explains Steininger.<\/p>\n

However, the US president is on a fine line. If China in turn charges 10 percent additional duty on US imports, it could reduce its losses to 21.6 billion euros, and the profits of the US in losses of 1.5 billion Turn over the euro.
