The measured pace in US framing lumber trading that began in early July persisted into the latter part of the month. Some traders called it the summer doldrums, but many agreed a general malaise engulfed the market, with overall production outstripping demand. Traders looked for more production curtailments to help balance supply and demand, but little developed this week on that front.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Soft prices in various species pushed the Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price down another $5, to $351.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a>Random Lengths Panel Market Report<\/h3>\n

A lack of enthusiasm enveloped trading of structural panels and often led to price cuts to secure orders. Lethargic demand for OSB through much of the week prompted producers to entertain counters that spanned a wide range depending on volume. Steeper discounts surfaced for carloads of Southern Plywood, as producers struggled to maintain order files. Western Plywood prices were flat to down. Mills with surplus inventories were unable to sell lingering excesses. Prices of Canadian Plywood eroded modestly.<\/p>\n
