News broke last month of another mill closure in British Columbia, which shifted trading in most framing lumber species to a higher gear. West Fraser announced its intention to permanently close its Chasm lumber mill and eliminate a shift at the 100 Mile House mill in the third quarter.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Sales slowed in late trading, however, as buyers paused to assess the market. The reported price of Western S-P-F #2&Btr 2x4 jumped $30 higher, although upward momentum slowed in the second half of the week.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Random Lengths Panel Market Report<\/h3>\n

Structural panel trading displayed more energy. Sales of OSB kicked into high gear. Supply-side concerns pulled buyers into the market following recent curtailment announcements in Western Canada. A more positive tone emerged in Southern Pine plywood after a sluggish start shifted to steadier sales in late trading. An uptick in western Fir plywood activity at midweek generated enough sales for some producers to report their strongest sales in weeks. Canadian plywood traders experienced a sluggish week. The Random Lengths Non-Structural Panel Composite Price shifted for the first time since its inception, posting an $8 gain.<\/p>\n
