In 2018, logging in the Czech Republic increased to 25.7 million m3 .\u00a0That is the highest value in the history of the country.\u00a0<\/strong>The unscheduled wood resulted from calamities alone accounted for 23 million m3 and is far higher than the total of 2017, as the Statistical Office of the Czech Republic reported.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The main reason for this is the dry weather and the resulting bark beetle epidemics.\u00a0With 87.2%, spruce is by far the most affected.\u00a0This is followed by pine with 4.4% and beech with 2.5%.<\/p>\n

The most affected regions were Vyso\u010dina in the central south of the country with 3.8 million m3, South Bohemia with 3.4 million m3, Olomouc in the northeast with also 3.4 million m3 and Moravsko Slezk\u00fd in the east with 3.0 million m3.<\/p>\n
