and bark beetle are expected to damage 30 million m3 of Germany&#8217;s forests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By April 2019, 13 million m3 of damaged wood has been reported in Germany so far, mostly due to storms or instects.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>This is the result of a survey of the German Federal Ministry of Agriculture (BMEL) in the federal states.\u00a0According to state secretary Michael St\u00fcbgen, a similar amount of wood damage has to be expected as in the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, more than 30 million m3 of wood have been destroyed by storms and pest insects, especially bark beetles.<\/p>\n<p>According to St\u00fcbgen, the ministry is aware of its responsibility for the German forests, and has taken measures to help ease the situation.\u00a0Over a period of five years, a total of 25 million euros in federal funds are available for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Measures to clean up existing sites and protect the soil<\/li>\n<li>Various forest protection measures (inter alia monitoring, prevention and control of harmful organisms, installation of wood storage areas for the storage of damaged wood, measures for the prevention and control of forest fires)<\/li>\n<li>Measures for reforestation, pre- and substructure as well as repair in stocks damaged by extreme weather events.<\/li>\n<li>In order to better respond to damage in the future, the ministry has commissioned a continuous monitoring system on occurrence and development.\u00a0The aim is to obtain as soon as possible reliable figures for the federal territory in order to react even faster in future calamities.\u00a0In addition, the ministry has discussed further tax relief for the forest owners affected by these damage with the Ministry of
