The CLT manufacturer XLam announced that it will close its New Zealand plant in Nelson.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

As the Australian daily\u00a0The Fifth Estate reports, quoting company officials, XLam decided to close the plant as the operations were no longer considered commercially sustainable and that \u201ca new business model\u201d would \u201cusher in a more commercially competitive and sustainable way for the company to supply CLT to the market.\u201d<\/p>\n

XLam said the move would allow more efficient servicing of demand for its product in New Zealand, The Fifth Estate says.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs demand for off-site fabrication, mass timber construction and CLT continues to grow, so too does the XLam business, with a focus on improved customer solutions and increased manufacturing utilisation\u201d, XLam's CEO Shane Robertson said, as quoted by The Fifth Estate.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe existing highly manual, capacity-constrained operation in Nelson has been confirmed to be commercially unsustainable for future CLT manufacture,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

It seems that XLam's future supply to New Zealand will be filled by the company's plant in Wodonga, Australia after the Nelson plant will be closed in the future months.<\/p>\n

The company will establish a new warehousing and distribution operation in the Waikato region, and new offices at Nelson.<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
