In the 2nd\u00a0half of 2018, compared to the 1st\u00a0half of 2018, the average purchase prices of softwood logs in Latvia increased, while that of hardwood logs fell.\u00a0The highest rise was recorded in the prices of pine logs in diameter under 14 cm and asp sawlogs in diameter 18\u201324\u00a0cm, while the most notable decline was observed in the prices of birch sawlogs in diameter over 24\u00a0cm.<\/em><\/p>\n

Compared to the 1st\u00a0half, in the 2nd\u00a0half of 2018 the sharpest rise in softwood logs sector was registered in prices of pine sawlogs in diameter under 14\u00a0cm (on average of 10\u00a0% or 5\u00a0EUR\/m3), spruce sawlogs in diameter over 26 cm (5 % or 4\u00a0EUR\/m3), and spruce sawlogs in diameter under 14 cm (5\u00a0% or 3\u00a0EUR\/m3). Smaller increase was recorded in prices of pine sawlogs in diameter over 26\u00a0cm, pine sawlogs in diameter 18\u201326 cm, spruce sawlogs in diameter 14\u201318\u00a0cm, and spruce logs in diameter 18\u201326\u00a0cm. No changes were registered in the average purchase prices of pine sawlogs in diameter 14\u201318\u00a0cm (72\u00a0EUR\/m3).<\/span><\/p>\n

The rise in the purchase prices of roundwood are related to the favourable weather conditions of 2018 when dry summer allowed to fell forests also located on lower land areas. Regardless the fact that availability of timber increased, the sector still had timber shortage.<\/p>\n

Compared to the 1st\u00a0half, in the 2nd\u00a0half of 2018 the most notable rise within the hardwood logs sector was observed in purchase prices of asp sawlogs in diameter 18\u201324 cm\u00a0 (of 13\u00a0% or 5\u00a0EUR\/m3).\u00a0 Smaller increase was observed in purchase prices of hardwood packing timber (of 4\u00a0% or on average 2 EUR\/m3) and birch sawlogs in diameter 18\u201324 cm (of 2\u00a0% or on average 1 EUR\/m3). The most notable reduction was recorded in the purchase prices of black alder sawlogs in diameter over 24\u00a0cm (of 10\u00a0% or on average 5\u00a0EUR\/m3), birch sawlogs in diameter over 24 cm (6\u00a0% or 5\u00a0EUR\/m3), and black alder sawlogs in diameter 18\u201324\u00a0cm (5\u00a0% or 2\u00a0EUR\/m3). Reduction was registered also in the purchase prices of birch veneer logs of categories A and B \u00a0\u00a0and asp sawlogs in diameter over 24\u00a0cm.<\/p>\n

Over the ten years, purchase prices of roundwood have reached their maximum value. Compared to the 1st\u00a0half of 2009, in the 2nd\u00a0half of 2018 the most notable rise within the softwood logs sector was observed in the purchase prices of spruce sawlogs in diameter under 14\u00a0cm (on average of 127\u00a0% or 32\u00a0EUR\/m3) and pine sawlogs in diameter under 14\u00a0cm (112\u00a0% or 30\u00a0EUR\/m3). Purchase prices of other spruce sawlogs grew within the limits between 85\u00a0%\u00a0and 90\u00a0%, while of pine sawlogs between 90\u00a0% and 95\u00a0%.<\/p>\n

Over the period, the greatest rise in hardwood logs sector was observed in the prices of veneer logs of category A \u2013 of 123\u00a0% or 58\u00a0EUR\/m3, while prices of veneer logs of category B grew by 73\u00a0% or 29\u00a0EUR\/m3. Increase was recorded also in prices of birch roundwood in diameter over 24cm (of 105\u00a0% or on average 40\u00a0EUR\/m3) and hardwood packing timber (102\u00a0% or 23\u00a0EUR\/m3). Purchase prices of asp sawlogs grew from 64\u00a0% to 75\u00a0%. The lowest rise was recorded in purchase prices of black alder sawlogs in diameter 18\u201324 cm (on average of 18\u00a0% or 6\u00a0EUR\/m3) and black alder sawlogs in diameter over 24 cm (19\u00a0% or 7\u00a0EUR\/m3).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
