Winter kept a grip on many regions and key markets, but sales of framing lumber in US picked up in some species nonetheless. A sense that winter\u2019s days were numbered among traders of western species and Canadian S-P-F fueled wholesaler short covering in both cash and futures.<\/em><\/p>\n

Gains on the board Wednesday and Thursday helped bolster confidence among some buyers, but not all, particularly those still struggling with the weather. Firming in prices late in the week failed to offset early losses, and the Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price fell $7, to $364.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Random Lengths Panel Market Report<\/h3>\n

Adverse weather conditions caused another week of stagnant trading in structural panels. Snow and frigid temperatures kept OSB shipments to job sites at a near-standstill in northern markets. Wet weather continued to blunt demand across the South. Southern Pine plywood sales were inconsistent during an overall slow week of trading, but mills were hesitant to alter their approach to the market. Western Fir plywood sales were quiet to start the week, but the tone improved in late trading.<\/p>\n
