{"id":77263,"date":"2019-03-15T13:48:59","date_gmt":"2019-03-15T13:48:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tin.happy-projects.ro\/new-wood-pellets-plant-south-korea-equipped-italian-machinery\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T08:50:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T08:50:09","slug":"new-wood-pellets-plant-south-korea-equipped-italian-machinery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/new-wood-pellets-plant-south-korea-equipped-italian-machinery\/","title":{"rendered":"New wood pellets plant in South Korea equipped with Italian machinery"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p><em>At the beginning of 2019, the Italian machine and plant manufacturer Imal-Pal signed an important project with the Korean Client Hanwha for a new pellet plant of 40 t\/h capacity, a production of approx. 320,000 t\/year.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As fabricant of machinery for the wood preparation since 1978, PAL is to supply:<span id=\"more-19210\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Screening and cleaning system of the chips feeding stream by Dynascreen and dry cleaning machines.<\/li>\n<li>Wet and dry wood milling system by 8 Hammermills of the Falcon type in its high-performance configuration, complete of screw metering, metal and contaminant removing system through magnetic drum and air selection system.<\/li>\n<li>After the Dryer, a screening and cleaning system by Superscreen and Wind Sifter is to provide for the reduction of energy consumption in the milling area and at the same time ensure the wood quality having removed all residual contaminants in the wood mix. This important implementation will not only guarantee the Pellet quality but also avoid the risks of fire and explosion thanks to the removal of all contaminants that would cause ignition during the milling phase.<\/li>\n<li>1 Storage silo equipped with the Extracon type extractor for the storage of dry wood after the drier.<\/li>\n<li>8 Volumetric metering systems equipped with DB.4 type screws.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Delivery is scheduled for October this year. All machines are made in Italy.<\/p>\n<p>Demand for industrial wood pellets in S. Korea has grown rapidly in recent years, a trend that could continue over the next several years. In 2017 S. Korean pellet imports were about 2.25 million metric tonnes.<\/p>\n<p>S. Korea is guiding the power generation industry with a Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS). The RPS program requires the 13 largest\u00a0power companies (with installed power capacity larger than 500 MW)\u00a0to steadily increase their renewable energy mix from two per cent in 2012 to 10 per cent by 2024.<\/p>\n<p>For power companies to meet their RPS targets they can: (1) Invest in renewable energy installations themselves and receive renewable energy certificates or RECs based on the MWhs generated from renewable sources, or (2) purchase RECs in the RPS marketplace to meet their obligation.<\/p>\n<p>If the power company fails to accumulate the required number of RECs based on the RPS mandate, they pay a fine. The penalty is equal to 150 per cent of the average market price of the RECs for that year for each REC they are deficient.<\/p>\n<p>Based on data from announced co-firing and full-firing projects, S. Korean demand is expected to reach about nine million tonnes per year by 2024 if REC prices remain high enough to compensate for the expected higher cost of pellets as competition in the region increases. The pellet market into S. Korea is already tightening.
