However, if more than 25% of the export sales of log exporting companies are processed products such as lumber, veneer and wood chips in the last three years, log export duty is held at 6.5% for 2019 for those companies.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of higher log export duty is to promote industrialization of Far East forest industry but there are only a few companies which already have wood processing facilities, and thus log exports will be more difficult.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, Russia\u2019s total log exports fell 3.2 per cent to 19.44 million cbm. The volume of logs to China totalled 12.87 million cbm (-0.8%). China absorbs about 66.2 per cent of Russia\u2019s total log exports.<\/p>\n<p>In order to qualify for log export, at least 20 percent of a Russian company\u2019s total exports must be valued-added wood products.
