Production volumes of the Finnish sawmills in the fourth quarter of 2018 fell slightly as compared to the same period of 2017.\u00a0However, annual production of lumber increased, reaching 11.8 million cubic meters.\u00a0Plywood production, on the other hand, fell by 0.9 per cent year-on-year.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Overall, production volumes in the Finnish forest industry rose high in 2018. According to statistics collected by the Finnish Forest Industries Federation, pulp production was broken by an annual record and only the production volume of plywood fell slightly from the previous year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Finland's pulp production was 8.152 million tonnes throughout the year, compared with a record high of 7.956 million tonnes in 2006. An increase of 5.8% year-on-year was recorded for pulp production throughout the year, and continued to grow in the fourth quarter of October.<\/p>\n

Pulp production is an essential basic process for the production of traditional paper and board products, but also for the production of new, innovative products.\u00a0The chemical pulp can now also be used, for example, in clothing, composites and filters.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough global growth now seems to be slightly declining, we are self-sufficient in allowing the forest industry to continue to flourish.\u00a0With our own efforts, we in Finland do not want to weaken the international competitiveness of the industry, says Timo Jaatinen, Managing Director of the Finnish Forest Industries Federation.<\/p>\n

Last year there was also a rise in cardboard production, which rose to 3.8 million tonnes.\u00a0Paper production continued to grow, albeit only by 1.1 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
