In January, a new round of auctions for standing timber was held by the Romanian Forestry Agency (Romsilva), after the disappointing first auction held in December, where the\u00a0national bidding ratio was 46%. The auctions are organized for Romsilva's -Romania's main forest land owner- planned harvest for 2019.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

At the first auction held in December, the buyers accused the too high starting prices at the auction - with an increase from 182 lei \/ m3 (38.37<\/span>\u00a0Euro)<\/span>\u00a0at the auction organized for 2018, up to 190 lei \/ m3 (38.37<\/span>\u00a0Euro) at the auction organized for the<\/span>\u00a02019 harvest. The auction price increase comes in the context of the generalized decrease prices in the Romanian wood market, low demand for both industrial wood and firewood.<\/span><\/p>\n

The second round of auctions did not make any significant changes to the auction start prices, but the national auctioning rate increased to 61%, with an average bid price of 204 lei\/m3 (43.01<\/span>\u00a0Euro)<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Basically, an additional volume of 942,279 cubic meters with an average price of 178.78 lei \/ mc\u00a0 (37.69<\/span>\u00a0Euro)<\/span>\u00a0was awarded in the second round of auctions.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0cumulative<\/strong>\u00a0results\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 of the auction for the year 2019 production - publicly presented by the National Forest Administration - Romsilva after the second round of auctions in January, can be found in the tables below.<\/p>\n

The second round of auctions organized by Romsilva recorded a significant decrease in average bid prices, with no significant increase in the total bid.\u00a0Very low rates of adjudication were recorded in the counties where the forestry authorities did not understand that the starting prices at the auction should be reduced: Mures, Buz\u0103u, Calarasi, D\u00e2mbovita, Iasi, Mehedinti, Timis, Valcea.<\/p>\n

The data provided by Romsilva are not detailed by species, but we can appreciate that the volumes auctioned in the second stage of the auction are predominantly of the beech species, with the average price mentioned 178 lei\/ m3.<\/p>\n

It should also be noted that the total volume offered at the main auctions is approaching to 80% of the total volume of main products proposed to be harvested in 2019!<\/p>\n

The volume of main products planned to be harvested in 2019 by Romsilva returns to normal with a total of 5.36 million cubic meters, compared to the volume of 6.76 million cubic meters planned to be harvested in 2018.<\/p>\n
