Georgia-Pacific announced plans to close its Warm Springs plywood production facility, resulting in the loss of about 300 jobs.<\/em><\/p>\n

The public announcement came on the company's Twitter account:<\/p>\n

\"Sharing difficult news: we will be closing our plywood facility in Warm Springs, Ga by the end of the year. This closure will affect approximately 300 of our employees.\"<\/p>\n

In a statement emailed to News 3, Rick Kimble, Georgia Pacific\u2019s Senior Manager for Public Relations said:<\/p>\n

\u201cGeorgia-Pacific will permanently cease manufacturing operations at its Warm Springs, Ga., plywood facility, due to overall market conditions. Although the new home construction market has returned somewhat since the recession in 2007\/08, the construction market has continued to tighten this year due to higher interest rates and labor shortages. Plywood continues to be challenged by different \u2013 less costly options \u2013 like OSB and imported plywood continues to be a big driver. Georgia-Pacific remains a strong player in the plywood manufacturing business with eight plywood mills across the U.S.A.\u201d<\/p>\n
