{"id":76736,"date":"2018-11-13T07:58:21","date_gmt":"2018-11-13T07:58:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tin.happy-projects.ro\/china-cut-import-tariffs-wood-products\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T08:49:25","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T08:49:25","slug":"china-cut-import-tariffs-wood-products","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/china-cut-import-tariffs-wood-products\/","title":{"rendered":"China to cut import tariffs on wood products"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>A recent government announcement effective November 1st, 2018 states that China has reduced import tariffs on more than 1,500 products to lower the average import tariff to around 7.8%.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Import tariffs on wood and paper products will be decreased to 5.4% from 6.6% which will help wood-based panels and other related imports to grow in China.<\/p>\n<p><strong>China-US Trade dispute update<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The trade war between China and United States continues to impact markets.<\/p>\n<p>During the first half of 2018 U.S. wood products made up:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>13% of China\u2019s softwood log imports; was 54% in 2017<\/li>\n<li>2% of China\u2019s softwood lumber imports; was 38% in 2017<\/li>\n<li>7% of China\u2019s hardwood log imports;<\/li>\n<li>21% of China\u2019s hardwood lumber imports.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>China wood imports overview<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chinese imports of Russian softwood lumber have been rising steadily since this February when imports hit the highest in May (1,590,000 m3) and maintained at the level of 1,500,000 m3 in August; Imports of Canadian softwood lumber on the other hand maintained 350,000 m3 each month from June to August but decreased 29% in August to (327,000 m3) compared to the same month last year.<\/p>\n<p>Logs and lumber inventory at Taicang, Wanfang and Meijing ports hit a new low in August (802,000 m3) which decreased consistently since this March, but winter and Chinese New Year inventory volume at all ports will be on the rise based on previous trends.
