As Belarus decided to ban exports of unprocessed wood starting January 1st, 2016, logs deliveries to Europe have stopped. The move was a decision of the Belarusian president, Aleksandr Lukashenko\u00a0\u00a0which was meant to\u00a0raise the\u00a0volumes of wood\u00a0processed inside the country.<\/em><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The trend has been upward since this decision and it seems that it's set to continue this year. Accordingly, the softwood lumber (HS code:\u00a0440710)\u00a0exports\u00a0from Belarus to\u00a0the European Union countries\u00a0have jumped\u00a0in the first 9 months of 2016, by 50%, to a total of\u00a01,5 million m3, and well over EUR 200 million.<\/div>\n
\n

Germany was the top European importer, with EUR 60 million worth of Belarusian softwood timber (and\u00a0446,881\u00a0m3).\u00a0Latvian imports increased by 50% and those of Lithuania by 46%, reaching volumes of\u00a0348,492\u00a0m3 and\u00a0307,777\u00a0m3, respectively.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n
