Deep cuts in prices of framing lumber persisted through a second straight week, leaving traders stunned at the volatility of the market in 2018.<\/em><\/p>\n

Traders took note of some of the deepest weekly cuts in memory, as producers probed for trading levels amid an intensely competitive bid for offers among the various producing regions and species. The Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price fell $18 for the week to $423.<\/p>\n

The index has fallen $159 from its record peak of $582 set in early June.<\/p>\n

Structural panel sales slowed abruptly, as last week\u2019s storm-related fervor faded. Trading fell silent across North America, and the dearth of activity left most prices flat. Buyers throughout the distribution system lacked urgency. Sales of Southern Pine plywood dissipated, but prices held or edged up. Buyers digested loads acquired during the run up to Hurricane Florence and were reluctant to purchase additional volumes. Trading in western Fir plywood quieted from the previous week\u2019s pickup.<\/p>\n
