As the post-holiday week affected negatively the lumber trade in the US, deep discounting re-emerged in prices last week.<\/em><\/p>\n

Traders noted the market looked similar to the weeks that followed the Fourth of July, as buyers sat on their hands sensing downside risk. Buyers noted ample offerings throughout the distribution system and were content to replenish on a one-for-one basis.<\/p>\n

Double-digit cuts at the mill level were the rule, and the Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price dropped $12 for the week to $441.<\/p>\n

Random Lengths Panel Market Report<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hurricane Florence was a major factor in structural panel trading. Sales of OSB faded sharply in the South late in the week.<\/p>\n

The market lacked follow-through after the storm\u2019s approach jolted sales Monday and Tuesday. Anticipation of the storm drove Southern Pine plywood sales on the eastside in early trading and demand quickly spread to other zones, as buyers sensed tightening supplies.<\/p>\n

Activity picked up in western Fir plywood, with many traders reporting their best week in about a month.<\/p>\n
