Demand for Indian imported logs has risen on the\u00a0back of firmer domestic demand.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

However, over the past months the US dollar has\u00a0strengthened against the rupee which has pushed up\u00a0landed costs. To maintain a viable business prices in the\u00a0local market have risen 8-10 %. Importers are still\u00a0struggling to maintain trade without the full backing of the\u00a0banks which are still not offering full credit facilities.<\/p>\n

Prices for locally sawn imported hardwoods<\/strong><\/p>\n

With the domestic housing market showing firm growth\u00a0the demand for wood products has improved. Because of\u00a0the weak rupee import costs have risen such that traders\u00a0have had to raise prices and the market has accepted the\u00a0price increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Myanmar teak prices<\/strong><\/p>\n

Improved activity in the construction and house building\u00a0sector has begun to drive up demand for Myanmar teak\u00a0and the price increases introduced at the beginning of\u00a0August are holding.<\/p>\n

However, analysts write that as stocks of Myanmar teak\u00a0purchased before the log export ban in Myanmar further\u00a0rise in prices are likely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
