Framing lumber prices in US spiraled downward, as mills searched for trading levels to little avail. Deep double-digit cuts left traders all the more uncertain about where a bottom might be found.<\/em><\/p>\n

Futures helped set the tone for the rout, as two down-limit days threw cold water on a modest rally on the board Tuesday. The Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price fell for an eighth straight week. The $28 drop for the week pushed the index to its lowest level since January, and $120 off its record high set in June.<\/p>\n

Structural panel prices found some traction in late trading. The two-month price slide in OSB remained intact, although activity picked up as buyers saw target levels come into view. Since peaking in early June, prices of 7\/16-inch have tumbled as much as $200 in some regions. A more optimistic tone emerged in late trading of Southern Pine plywood, but prices eroded amid steady downward pressure. Western Fir plywood trading picked up, but lacked vigor. Some mills drew a line in the sand on further price cuts.<\/p>\n
