{"id":76113,"date":"2018-07-23T10:08:19","date_gmt":"2018-07-23T10:08:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tin.happy-projects.ro\/brazil-giant-wood-pellet-plant-to-be-build-in-rio-grande-do-sul\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T08:48:36","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T08:48:36","slug":"brazil-giant-wood-pellet-plant-to-be-build-in-rio-grande-do-sul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/brazil-giant-wood-pellet-plant-to-be-build-in-rio-grande-do-sul\/","title":{"rendered":"Brazil: Giant wood pellet plant to be build in Rio Grande do Sul"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Fepam, the environmental protection agency in the\u00a0Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, issued on Wednesday the environmental licence for a 50-MW biomass project.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The facility will be built on a 112,000-sq-m area in the municipality of Pinheiro Machado at a total cost of BRL 1 billion (USD 255.5m\/EUR 219.2m).<span id=\"more-17436\"><\/span>\u00a0It is owned by local company Pellco Brasil and in the first phase, it intends to produce 900 thousand tons of peletts per year (the project also provides for another two phases, which will eventually produce 1.8 million tons \/ year), cutting 5,000 hectares of forest annually.\u00a0In addition, the plant will produce its own energy by setting up a 50 megawatt (MW) \/ hour thermoelectric plant, consuming one part and selling the surplus.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0initial investment is 300 million\u00a0dollars.\u00a0For its electricity generation, the plant will use ground logs, bark, twigs, bundles of trees and rice hulls as fuel.
