A modular\u00a0cross-laminated tulipwood pavilion will be built by Arup, together with\u00a0the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) and Waugh Thistleton Architects.<\/em><\/p>\n

The building is set to\u00a0be displayed in the Sackler courtyard of the V&A from 15 September, the MultiPly will be one of the London Design Festival\u2019s Landmark projects.\u00a0Made of 17 modules with digitally fabricated joints, the maze-like structure will be assembled like an item of flat-packed furniture, New Civil Engineer reported.<\/p>\n

Designed to \u201cencourage visitors to re-think the way we design and build our homes and cities<\/em>\u201d, Arup\u2019s project director Carolina Bartram said that despite looking simple the project is a \u201ccomplex engineering challenge<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cContinuing our exploration of hardwood CLT on installations such as The Timberwave,\u00a0The Smile\u00a0and\u00a0Endless Stair, MultiPly provides a playful opportunity to experiment and innovate with this tactile and adaptable material<\/em>,\u201d Bartram said.<\/p>\n
