While there has been no\u00a0official communication from either the\u00a0Chinese government or US\u00a0government officials in China, NHLA has confirmed from three different\u00a0freight forwarding companies as to the situation at hand.It has reported to NHLA that \"No logs (hardwood or softwood) can enter the following ports unless they are de-barked or have been fumigated: Zhapu, Yantian, Qingdao. Other Chinese districts are expected to follow suit.\"<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>NHLA highly suggests to make contact with the freight forwarding company directly before sending any shipments to China.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Phyto\u00a0requirements for hardwood log shipments to China according to USDA-APHIS:<\/p>\n<p>The most stringent China requirements are on oak with bark, due to oak wilt. We are required to fumigate with methyl bromide, at 15 lbs\/1000 ft\u00b3\u00a0for 72 hours. Without bark only a Phyto Certificate is required. All other species and states are:<\/p>\n<p>Logs (Hardwood) from All Other States<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>\u25cf With Bark:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Phytosanitary Certificate (PC) is required. State of origin must be listed on PC. Logs must be safeguarded with a secure cover or otherwise segregated after treatment and cannot be stored directly on soil.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>o \u00a0\u00a0Logs must be treated with:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a7\u00a0 Methyl Bromide (Tarp or Chamber) 41 to 59F 7.5lbs\/1000ft3 for 16hrs; 60 or above 5lbs\/1000ft3 for 16hrs<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u25cf Without Bark:<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Phytosanitary Certificate (PC) is required. State of origin must be listed on PC. Logs must be safeguarded with a secure cover or otherwise segregated after inspection and\/or treatment (if required) and cannot be stored directly on soil.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Additional Declaration (AD), \"The logs in this shipment are without bark.\"<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Individual logs must have less than 5% bark on the surface area and the entire shipment must have less than 2% bark overall.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>Logs (Hardwood) from SC and VA<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u25cf With Bark:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>o \u00a0Phytosanitary Certificate (PC) is required. State of origin must be listed on PC. The treatment facility must be listed in the treatment section in the additional information box. Logs must be safeguarded with a secure cover or otherwise segregated after treatment and cannot be stored directly on soil.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>o \u00a0Logs must be treated with Methyl Bromide (tarp or chamber):<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a7\u00a0 41 to 59F 7.5lbs\/1000ft3 for 24 hours<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a7\u00a0 60 or above 5lbs\/1000ft3 for 24 hours<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u25cf Without Bark:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>o \u00a0Phytosanitary Certificate (PC) is required. State of origin must be listed on PC.
