On February 15, four US plywood producers filed a petition at the US\u00a0Department of Commerce complaining about the\u00a0plywood imports from China. For now, DOC has dismissed the petition and decided not to\u00a0launch a new investigation.<\/em><\/p>\n

The plywood producers asked for DOC to add more\u00a0far-reaching reviews to complement the investigation completed at the end of 2017.<\/p>\n

They also wanted to broaden the subject of the probe\u00a0into plywood made with softwood veneer faces, as the companies believe that various plywood manufacturers in China are switching\u00a0 outer faces with softwood veneers, as a response to\u00a0punitive duties imposed on hardwood plywood products at the start of 2017.<\/p>\n

Section 781c of the US Tariff Act of 1930 permits for the investigation to be broadened as long as the new object of the investigation only varies slightly from the grades covered to date.<\/p>\n

The investigations made until now are addressed for laminated and unlaminated plywood with two or more layers whose top face solely consists of hardwood veneers or bamboo. With this backdrop, the DOC believes that plywood with softwood outer faces cannot be seen as a minor product change to the object of the investigation.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
