In 2017, the Finnish forest industry production increased in the majority of the main product categories. However, the production of mechanical pulp and paper decreased in comparison with the previous year.<\/em><\/p>\n

The production volumes of sawn softwood goods increased by half a million cubic metres to 11.9 million cubic metres. The proportion of spruce has increased in recent years and, in 2017, a total of 6.2 million cubic metres of spruce sawn goods were produced,\u00a0says\u00a0Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) in a report.<\/p>\n

The Finnish domestic consumption of sawn goods increased to 3.8 million cubic metres (0.70 m3 per capita), showing an increase by 20% over 2016.<\/p>\n

The production of chemical pulp totalled 7.7 million tonnes, i.e. 3% more than in the previous year. Similar figures were last reached in 2007 before the economic recession.<\/p>\n

Paper production in Finland has decreased since 2011. In 2017, the production volume of 6.7 million tonnes was 2% lower than in the previous year. Currently, around 20% less paper is manufactured than on average during the preceding ten-year period.<\/p>\n

The Finnish paperboard reached a new production record at 3.6 million tonnes, showing an increase of 9% from the previous year and 25% in terms of the long-term average.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
