U.S. sawmills produced 25.509 billion board ft. (bbf) of softwood lumber in the first nine months of 2017, an increase of 3.2% from 24.730 bbf in the same period of 2016, according to the latest Lumber Track report by the Western Wood Products Assn. (WWPA) of Portland, Oregon.<\/em><\/p>\n

Western U.S. sawmills contributed 10.608 bbf to the nine-month total, a gain of 2.4% % from last year\u2019s 10.356 bbf, while output from Southern sawmills at 13.700 bbf was up 3.7% from 13.209 bbf a year earlier.<\/p>\n

In September alone, production was 2.737 bbf \u2013 up 1.0% from 2.710 bbf last year, but down 10.3% from output in August 2017 of 3.050 bbf.<\/p>\n

Sawmills in the West produced 1.144 bbf of September\u2019s total, up 0.6% from 1.137 bbf last year, but down 13.8% from 1.137 bbf in the previous month. Southern sawmills accounted for 1.464 bbf, a year-over-year gain of 1.2% from 1.446 bbf, but down 7.3% from 1.580 bbf in August 2017.<\/p>\n

Apparent U.S. softwood lumber consumption in the first nine months was 35.937 bbf, down 0.2% from 36.006 in the same period last year. Apparent consumption in September was 3.907 bbf \u2013 up 0.1% from 3.905 bbf in September last year, but down 3.3% from 4.039 bbf in August.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
