The German parquet manufacturers recorded a decline in production during the first half of 2017.<\/em><\/p>\n

According to the Federal Statistical Office, the production volume of the German parquet industry fell by 7.2% from January to June 2017, as compared to the same period of the previous year, down to 3.86 million square meters.<\/p>\n

The multi-layer parquet, in particular, contributed to the negative overall result, with a minus of 7.6%, to 3.58 million square meters. The production volumes of strip parquet and mosaic parquet also fell by 4.8% to 115,000 square meters or by 0.1% to 171,000 square meters. The production value of the German parquet industry fell slightly in the same period by minus 3.4% to 100 million euros.<\/p>\n

Michael Schmid,\u00a0\u00a0Chairman of the German Parquet Industry Association (VDP<\/em>), sees a reason for this minus in the undoubtedly high popularity of reproductive products among the end users: \"It should look like wood, feel like wood, but it does not necessarily have to be wood - this is unfortunately the sad reality for many consumers<\/em>\".<\/p>\n

Considering this reason, the industry has to continue to pursue educational work, as 'parquet' may only be a wooden floor with a real wood wear layer of at least 2.5 millimeters.<\/p>\n

The economic environment of the parquet industry is likely to develop less positively in the current year than in previous years. After a significant increase last year, the number of building permits in Germany fell by 6.3% from January to August 2017.<\/p>\n

This development affected both new construction, with a decrease of 3.7% but also the modernization segment with a fall of 21.7%. At the moment, positive impulses are registered in the construction of multi-family houses. The construction of commercial property as an important driver for the development of the parquet industry is also currently sending negative impulses - the number of approved new buildings has decreased slightly by 4.2% and the number of modernization measures by 1.6%.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
