{"id":74894,"date":"2017-11-15T08:59:10","date_gmt":"2017-11-15T08:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tin.happy-projects.ro\/uk-lumber-production-5\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T08:47:06","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T08:47:06","slug":"uk-lumber-production-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/uk-lumber-production-5\/","title":{"rendered":"UK: Lumber production up by 5%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UK's sawmills produced a total volume of\u00a03.624m m\u00b3 softwood lumber during 2016, 5% more than in the preceding year, when the\u00a0production of home-grown timber amounted to 3.449m m\u00b3.<\/p>\n<p>As shown in the latest Forestry Statistics published by Forestry Commission, the production in Scotland also went up by 5% to 1.871m m\u00b3. In Northern Ireland and England, the production volumes increased at a similar rate to 1.093m m\u00b3 and 294,000m\u00b3 respectively. Yet, production increased most significantly in Wales by 13% to 366,000m\u00b3.<\/p>\n<p>The increase from 2016 partly balanced the 7% decline recorded in 2015, as compared to 2014.\u00a0In 2014 British sawmills produced 3.716m m\u00b3 softwood lumber and thus reached the highest production volume ever recorded by the Forestry Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Sawmills that had an\u00a0annual production of over 100,000m\u00b3 produced a total of 2.296m m\u00b3 softwood lumber in 2016. As compared to UK's total production,\u00a0this constitutes an increase by three percentage points to 63%. The companies with a production volume of 50,000-100,000m\u00b3 produced 597,000m\u00b3, which constitutes 16% of British production. Production by sawmills with annual production of 10,000-25,000m\u00b3 increased by 14% to 338,000m\u00b3.<\/p>\n<p>Sawmills from the other size-classes, in comparison, produced less in 2016 than in 2015. For companies which reach an annual production of 25,000-50,000m\u00b3, production plummeted by 60% to 186,000m\u00b3.
