As Belarus decided to ban exports of unprocessed wood starting January 1st, 2016, logs deliveries to Europe have stopped.<\/strong><\/em><\/div>\n
\n

The move was a decision of the Belarusian president, Aleksandr Lukashenko\u00a0\u00a0which was meant to\u00a0raise the\u00a0volumes of wood\u00a0processed inside the country.<\/p>\n

Accordingly, the softwood timber exports\u00a0from Belarus to\u00a0the European Union countries\u00a0have jumped\u00a0in the first 9 months of 2016, by 35%, to a total of\u00a0967,360 m3, and well over EUR 100 million.<\/p>\n

Germany was the top European importer, with EUR 35 million worth of Belarusian softwood timber (309,918 m3).\u00a0Imports to Lithuania increased by 36% and the ones to Latvia by 59%, reaching volumes of\u00a0194,425 m3 and\u00a0156,386 m3, respectively.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
