The forestry industry in Switzerland got positive results during last year,\u00a0both for the timber harvest and the energy market.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

According to the Swiss Wood Market Commission, the good weather was a factor to motivate the private forest owners to harvest wood. The Swiss\u00a0sawmills worked very good and the sales kept stable and the business owners decided to keep the prices at the levels of September 2016, taking into consideration a change for the coming months.<\/p>\n

However, the margins and earnings situation remains highly strained with the current CHF \/ EUR exchange rate, which is well below 1.15.<\/p>\n

The ongoing winter cold has boosted the demand for pellets and energy wood. The higher demand for pellets leads to a relaxation of the sawmill market. The Commission is concerned about the new regulation on the prevention and disposal of waste, which is about to be implemented. They threaten massive cost increases in ash disposal.<\/p>\n

In order to continue to mitigate the currency disadvantages of the Swiss franc against the euro, forest owners and woodworkers are investing in the promotion of Swiss timber. The demand for Swiss wood has been growing noticeably for 1-2 years.<\/p>\n

The Swiss Wood Market Commission will meet again on 27 June 2017.<\/p>\n
