Interfor\u00a0announced today it has completed the acquisition of four sawmills from Simpson Lumber Company, LLC, increasing its annual lumber production capacity by 30 percent to 3.1 billion board feet (7,31 million cbm).<\/p>\n
The purchase of the sawmills in Tacoma (Commencement Bay), WA; Longview, WA; Meldrim, GA; and Georgetown, SC, are key to Interfor's growth strategy and firmly establishes its presence in the US, the company stated in a press release.<\/p>\n
The sawmill operations have a combined annual lumber capacity of 750 million board feet (1,76 million cubic meters) and produced around 555 million board feet (1,30 million cbm) in 2014. As a result of this transaction, Interfor's total capacity will increase by 30% to 3.1 billion board feet (7,31 million cbm), reinforcing its position as the fastest growing lumber company in the world, Interfor says.<\/p>\n
The company's lumber capacity in the US Southeast and Pacific Northwest will total 1.2 billion board feet (2,83 million) and 900 million board feet (2,12 million cbm), respectively, representing 67% of the company's total pro forma capacity.<\/p>\n
