The turnover of the German furniture industry has declined by -3,7 percent in 2013. Dirk Uwe Klaas, the managing director of the German Federation of the furniture industry (VDM), says that 528 medium-sized furniture companies had sales in 2013 worth EUR 16,1 billion. <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

This is EUR 600 million less than in 2012 (EUR 16,7 billion). The German furniture industry employeed 86,000 men and women, which represents a decline of -1,1%.<\/p>\n

''The manufacturers are standing firmly, despite these difficult times mainly caused by weak sales to Europe<\/em>'' said Klaas.<\/p>\n

For the current year, VDM expects that furniture sales will basically remain at the same level as in 2013.<\/p>\n

The entire German wood industry (including furniture) achieved in 2013 a turnover of EUR 32,2 billion; -1,7 percent or EUR 547 million less than in 2012. The number of employees in the industry declined by -0,6 percent, down to 151,026. Moreover, the number of companies decreased to 984 (-0,1 percent).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
