UPM\u2019s plywood business enters a new phase with stronger earnings for the year to date, although its latest quarterly figures show a slowdown after the first half.<\/p>\n

Third-quarter sales reached \u20ac67 million, compared with \u20ac72 million a year earlier. Comparable operating profit fell from \u20ac12 million to \u20ac10 million, while the margin narrowed to 14.6% from 16.0%. The business also lost ground against the second quarter, when sales were \u20ac84 million and comparable operating profit reached \u20ac18 million. A material solutions company<\/p>\n

The quarterly progression shows that the improvement recorded earlier in 2026 did not continue through the summer. Sales had risen from \u20ac80 million in the first quarter to \u20ac84 million in the second, with the comparable operating margin increasing from 19.0% to 21.4%. Nevertheless, January\u2013September sales increased to \u20ac231 million from \u20ac204 million. Comparable operating profit more than doubled to \u20ac43 million from \u20ac21 million, lifting the nine-month margin to 18.6% from 10.1%. A material solutions company<\/p>\n

The results cover the final full quarter before the separation of the plywood business from UPM. The partial demerger was registered on 31 October, transferring the relevant assets and liabilities to WISA Group. Nasdaq Helsinki approved the new company\u2019s listing, with trading under the symbol WISA scheduled to begin on 2 November. UPM-Kymmene Oyj<\/p>\n

UPM shareholders were allocated one WISA share for each UPM share held. The separation leaves the number of UPM shares unchanged and gives investors a separate holding in the plywood business. Shareholders approved the transaction at an extraordinary general meeting on 31 August. upm.com<\/p>\n

The financial presentation requires some care. UPM reports the business as discontinued operations and states that these figures do not represent its historical or future profitability as a standalone company. They should therefore be read separately from WISA\u2019s financial information prepared for the demerger and listing.<\/p>\n
