Sales rose 1.8% to $1.385 billion. Compared with a year earlier, sales increased 12.8% and adjusted EBITDA recovered from just $8 million.

The divergence between sales and earnings reduced the division’s adjusted EBITDA margin to 6.6%, from 9.5% in the second quarter, according to GWMI calculations. Reported operating income fell to $33 million from $71 million. These figures cover Wood Products, which includes manufacturing and distribution.

The quarterly series shows how uneven the recovery has been. Wood Products began 2025 with adjusted EBITDA of $161 million, but ended that year with a $20 million loss on the same measure. It returned to positive adjusted EBITDA in the first quarter of 2026, helped by higher lumber and OSB prices.

For January–September, segment sales totalled $3.909 billion, up 1.0% year on year. Adjusted EBITDA increased 7.8% to $291 million. The nine-month result therefore improved, although the third quarter reversed part of the earnings recovery achieved during the spring.

Lumber accounted for most of the year-on-year sales increase. Structural lumber revenue reached $629 million, compared with $509 million a year earlier. Selling prices rose 26%, while sales volumes declined 2%. The revenue gain was therefore driven by pricing rather than stronger shipments.

Engineered wood showed a different pattern. Solid-section sales volumes increased 9% year on year and I-joist volumes rose 14%, but selling prices fell 3% and 4%, respectively. Softwood plywood benefited from both stronger prices and higher volumes, lifting sales to $51 million from $38 million.

OSB sales reached $172 million, slightly above the $167 million recorded a year earlier. However, nine-month OSB revenue fell to $519 million from $600 million, with selling prices down 14% over that period. The product remained a drag on the division’s year-to-date sales performance.

Against the second quarter, OSB prices fell 2% and unit manufacturing costs increased because of more extensive planned annual maintenance and higher resin costs. Lumber log and manufacturing costs also rose. Engineered wood faced higher raw material and manufacturing costs, while distribution earnings weakened as specialty-product volumes and margins declined.

For the fourth quarter, Weyerhaeuser expects Wood Products earnings before special items and adjusted EBITDA to be moderately below the third quarter, excluding changes in average lumber and OSB selling prices. Lumber volumes are expected to ease and costs to rise. OSB manufacturing costs should fall, while engineered wood faces moderately higher raw material costs and slightly lower volumes for most products.

At group level, Weyerhaeuser reported net earnings of $61 million and adjusted EBITDA of $248 million. Those totals include Timberlands and Strategic Land Solutions as well as Wood Products.

Weyerhaeuser: Wood Products quarterly results

US$ million.
