Hasslacher is reorganising its Austrian production network as weak building activity weighs on demand for structural timber. Specialist manufacturing will be concentrated at fewer locations.<\/p>\n
The group will discontinue production at its Gemson subsidiary in Rangersdorf, Carinthia, according to Austrian regional outlet Dolomitenstadt. Machinery is to move to Stall im M\u00f6lltal, Sachsenburg and Hermagor by the end of 2026, shortening internal transport routes and cutting logistics costs.<\/p>\n
Christoph Kulterer, Hasslacher\u2019s chief executive and owner, said the group had acquired Gemson expecting market growth. Instead, four consecutive years of declining building activity had prevented the Rangersdorf operation from achieving sufficient utilisation, despite efforts to increase its workload.<\/p>\n
Most of the site\u2019s 40 employees are expected to remain with Hasslacher at Sachsenburg or Stall. Individual discussions with employees were taking place during the week of the 28 October report.<\/p>\n
Hasslacher acquired Gemson in 2022. Founded by Michaela and Gerhard G\u00f6ritzer in 2000, the business developed custom timber products for customers across Europe. Its specialities included small production runs, bespoke components, compact panels and round columns.<\/p>\n
At the time of the acquisition, Hasslacher described Gemson as a source of product development that increasingly overlapped with the group\u2019s main activities. Integrating the business was intended to bring those developments into a larger industrial operation. Gemson already employed around 40 people when the transaction was announced.<\/p>\n
The group\u2019s current site directory identifies Rangersdorf as a producer of glued laminated timber and special glulam components. The receiving plants cover several stages of timber processing: Sachsenburg combines sawmilling and glulam production, Stall manufactures cross-laminated timber, and Hermagor produces glulam and specialist structural components.<\/p>\n
Rangersdorf also received a new office building completed in 2023. Hasslacher\u2019s project documentation describes 310 m\u00b2 of offices, meeting and exhibition space. Panels, acoustic elements and larch columns used in the building were manufactured at Rangersdorf, while the cross-laminated timber came from Stall.<\/p>\n
The future use of the Rangersdorf production hall, covering 6,000 m\u00b2, remains undecided. A decision is expected by the end of the year.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
