Third-quarter deliveries reached 1.04 million m\u00b3, barely above a year earlier. The company has closed its Veitsiluoto sawmill and will end CLT production at Gruv\u00f6n, while its Central European operations remain under strategic review.<\/p>\n

Stora Enso\u2019s external wood products deliveries were broadly unchanged in the third quarter of 2026 as the company continued to consolidate sawmilling and engineered wood production.<\/p>\n

Deliveries reached 1.042 million m\u00b3, compared with 1.038 million m\u00b3 a year earlier, a reported increase of 0.3%. Volumes fell by approximately 15.3% from the second quarter\u2019s 1.230 million m\u00b3. Over January\u2013September, deliveries increased to 3.389 million m\u00b3 from 3.288 million m\u00b3, a gain of approximately 3.1%. The figures cover wood products rather than sawn timber alone.<\/p>\n

The quarterly figures show little year-on-year volume growth, while the company\u2019s operating footprint continues to change. In Finland, Stora Enso permanently closed its Veitsiluoto sawmill in Kemi and centralised production at its other sawmills. In Sweden, the Gruv\u00f6n site will retain sawn goods operations, but its cross-laminated timber unit will close permanently by the end of 2026.<\/p>\n

Fewer production sites<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Veitsiluoto closure forms part of Stora Enso\u2019s consolidation of sawmilling in northern Finland. The company confirmed in its quarterly report that the closure had been completed, moving the restructuring beyond the planning stage.<\/p>\n

At Gruv\u00f6n, the decision concerns CLT manufacturing rather than the entire wood products site. Sawn goods operations will continue. Chief executive Hans Sohlstr\u00f6m said concentrating CLT production would allow more efficient use of the company\u2019s three units in Austria and the Czech Republic.<\/p>\n

The strategic review of Central European sawmills and building solutions operations remains ongoing. The quarterly announcement did not provide a final decision on those businesses.<\/p>\n

Together, the measures concentrate production across fewer facilities while leaving the future ownership and structure of the Central European operations unresolved. The report does not quantify how much of the quarter-on-quarter delivery decline resulted from changes at individual sites.<\/p>\n

Wood Products no longer has a separate earnings line<\/strong><\/p>\n

Changes to Stora Enso\u2019s reporting structure limit the financial comparison available for its timber businesses. From 1 January 2026, Wood Products ceased to be a separate reportable segment.<\/p>\n

Northern European wood products operations were incorporated into Consumer Packaging, Integrated Packaging and Biomaterials. Central European wood products operations are reported within \u201cOther\u201d, alongside Swedish forest assets, Wood & Energy, group functions and the Growth business unit.<\/p>\n

Consequently, the results of \u201cOther\u201d cannot be treated as the earnings of the former Wood Products division. The current reporting structure provides delivery volumes for wood products but does not present a standalone Wood Products sales, adjusted EBIT or margin figure comparable with the former division.<\/p>\n

Stora Enso: wood products deliveries<\/h3>\n

Wood costs expected to rise in the fourth quarter<\/strong><\/p>\n

Stora Enso expects wood costs to increase somewhat in the final quarter of 2026. Its group outlook also points to continued pressure on energy, logistics and chemical costs, with demand remaining subdued across several end markets.<\/p>\n

The company did not provide a separate fourth-quarter earnings forecast for its sawmilling or engineered wood operations. For these businesses, the announced actions remain focused on concentrating production and improving utilisation of the remaining facilities.<\/p>\n

At group level, third-quarter adjusted EBIT increased to \u20ac161 million from \u20ac126 million a year earlier, supported by higher board volumes, lower variable costs and progress at the Oulu consumer board line. Sales declined to \u20ac2.240 billion from \u20ac2.283 billion, partly because of divestments.<\/p>\n

Stora Enso also reduced its 2026 capital expenditure estimate to approximately \u20ac500 million, from a previous forecast of below \u20ac550 million. The improvement in group earnings was led by packaging and cannot be read as evidence of a corresponding recovery in sawmill profitability.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
