Kastamonu Entegre, Y\u0131ld\u0131z Entegre and Kronospan are among seven wood-panel producers fined for coordinating bids at state timber auctions in Turkey. The Competition Authority reported administrative penalties totalling approximately TRY 1.3 billion (\u20ac23.4 million) following its investigation into purchases of wood used to manufacture MDF and particleboard.<\/p>\n

Kastamonu Entegre received the largest reported fine, approximately TRY 515 million (\u20ac9.25 million), followed by Y\u0131ld\u0131z Entegre with TRY 470 million (\u20ac8.44 million) and Kronospan with TRY 148 million (\u20ac2.66 million).<\/p>\n

Together, the three companies account for around 85% of the individual penalties listed in the authority\u2019s announcement. \u00c7amsan Ordu, \u00c7amsan Entegre, Vezirk\u00f6pr\u00fc Orman \u00dcr\u00fcnleri and Divapan were also fined.<\/p>\n

In a summary published on 26 October, Turkey\u2019s Competition Authority said the seven producers had coordinated their conduct in wood-sale auctions organised by the General Directorate of Forestry, known as OGM.<\/p>\n

Producers coordinated purchases of state-owned wood<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The investigation focused on how the companies competed for publicly owned wood. According to the regulator, the producers acted together instead of bidding independently, restricting competition in the auctions.<\/p>\n

The authority said such arrangements can prevent auction prices from being determined through open competition and reduce the revenue available to the state. Its findings concern the purchase of wood for industrial processing, rather than the prices charged for finished panels.<\/p>\n

MDF and particleboard supply furniture, kitchen cabinet and interior decoration manufacturers. The case centres on the conditions under which panel producers obtain the wood needed to supply those industries.<\/p>\n

Kastamonu and Y\u0131ld\u0131z account for most of the penalties<\/h2>\n

The reported fines against Kastamonu Entegre and Y\u0131ld\u0131z Entegre together amount to TRY 985 million (\u20ac17.69 million), almost three-quarters of the sum of the listed company penalties.<\/p>\n

Company fines are approximate figures published by the Competition Authority. They add up to TRY 1.329 billion; the authority describes the overall amount as approximately TRY 1.3 billion. Six companies settled<\/h2>\n

The investigation concluded through settlements for six companies. The case against Y\u0131ld\u0131z Entegre was completed under the ordinary investigation procedure.<\/p>\n

The 26 October announcement brings together the outcomes of the investigation; the penalties were imposed at different stages of the proceedings. The amounts are administrative fines reported by the regulator, rather than a statement of payments collected.<\/p>\n

The authority linked its action to protecting competition in public timber sales and ensuring that producers obtain raw materials under fair conditions.
