US oak exports to T\u00fcrkiye can resume after more than two months of disruption following the introduction of new phytosanitary regulations in August.<\/p>\n
The National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) announced on October 19 that USDA had updated its Phytosanitary Export Database (PExD) to include T\u00fcrkiye's amended import requirements. According to the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC), APHIS can now resume issuing phytosanitary certificates for eligible American oak products.<\/p>\n
The problems began on August 4, when T\u00fcrkiye introduced stricter plant-health controls, including mandatory inspections at authorised points of entry. Although the regulation did not impose a general ban on oak, US exporters were unable to obtain the necessary certificates, effectively halting shipments of red and white oak, including kiln-dried lumber.<\/p>\n
The restrictions also affected Turkish furniture manufacturers. In August, Yonga Mobilya warned that difficulties importing oak lumber, logs and veneer could interrupt production. The company, which relies heavily on American oak, said its existing stocks would cover approximately six weeks of manufacturing.<\/p>\n
NHLA has advised exporters to check the updated requirements for Quercus<\/em> in USDA's database and contact APHIS before arranging shipments.<\/p>\n The announcement applies to US oak exports.
