Smaller-diameter softwood assortments also recorded increases, following a sharp recovery over the summer.

Spruce sawlogs reached €109.94/m³ in September, compared with €104.95/m³ for pine sawlogs. Birch veneer logs rose to €167.48/m³, their highest level since March 2025.

The data indicate a widening difference between timber assortments. Standard coniferous sawlog prices have changed little in recent months, while smaller-diameter logs, birch veneer logs and pulpwood have recorded stronger gains.

Softwood sawlog prices remain stable

Spruce sawlog prices increased by 0.3% month-on-month to €109.94/m³, while pine sawlogs rose by a similar percentage to €104.95/m³. Compared with September 2025, spruce sawlogs were 3.7% more expensive, whereas pine sawlogs were marginally cheaper.

Smaller-diameter pine logs remained at €88.67/m³, unchanged from August and 5.9% below their level a year earlier. Smaller-diameter spruce logs reached €95.28/m³, representing a 1.7% annual decline.

The most significant developments were in the smallest softwood assortments. Pine poles increased to €72.13/m³ and spruce poles to €72.63/m³. Both categories gained approximately 2.7% during September.

Compared with June, pine pole prices have risen 35.1%, while spruce pole prices have increased 36.1%. The Estonian market report links this development partly to higher pulpwood prices, which have strengthened competition for smaller-diameter timber.

Birch veneer logs continue to recover

Birch veneer logs increased by 2.5% in September to €167.48/m³, up from €163.41/m³ in August. Prices were 9% above September 2025 levels.

Standard birch logs reached €108.11/m³, an increase of 0.5% during the month and 6.3% year-on-year. Smaller-diameter birch logs remained unchanged at €75/m³, although they were 7.1% more expensive than a year earlier.

Grey alder sawlogs recorded the largest monthly percentage increase among hardwood assortments, rising 14.5% to €53.24/m³. The report attributes this adjustment to the previous price level having become too low relative to firewood prices.

Aspen sawlogs declined by 1% to €59.91/m³, leaving prices 25.8% below September 2025. Black alder logs fell by 1.3% to €64.91/m³, a year-on-year decline of 7.6%.

Pulpwood recorded some of the strongest annual price increases in Estonia's timber market.

Birch pulpwood reached €71.60/m³ in September, up 3.2% from August and 25.6% year-on-year. This was the highest level since early 2023, according to the Estonian market report.

Pine and spruce pulpwood both reached €66.38/m³, representing annual increases of 26.1% and 26.8%, respectively. Aspen pulpwood rose to €52.68/m³, up 27.3% from September 2025.

Over the preceding three months, birch pulpwood prices increased by 21.7%, aspen pulpwood by 16.5%, and softwood pulpwood by approximately 12%.

Mixed firewood prices edged down 0.5% during September to €43.90/m³, but remained 10.1% above their level a year earlier.

<div style="overflow-x: auto;
