Estonia sawlog prices \u2013 August 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n Softwood sawlogs hold steady<\/strong><\/p>\n The main conifer sawlog assortments showed little movement in August. Spruce sawlogs were up 0.5% to \u20ac109.56\/m\u00b3, while pine sawlogs increased just 0.1% to \u20ac104.66\/m\u00b3. Small-diameter spruce logs rose 0.2%, while pine small sawlogs slipped 0.3%. Birch logs move higher<\/strong><\/p>\n Birch assortments showed a firmer trend. Birch sawlogs rose 0.9% in August to \u20ac107.62\/m\u00b3, while birch veneer logs increased 1.6% to \u20ac163.41\/m\u00b3. Birch small sawlogs were unchanged at \u20ac75\/m\u00b3. The three-month change was much stronger: birch sawlogs increased 9.3%, veneer logs 8.3% and small sawlogs 9.8%. Compared with August 2025, birch sawlogs were 10.5% higher, equivalent to \u20ac10.2\/m\u00b3. Veneer logs gained 9% and small sawlogs 7.1%. Other hardwood sawlogs moved in different directions. Black alder rose 5% in August, while aspen gained 2.7%. Grey alder fell 2.4%.<\/p>\n The longer-term comparison remains weak for aspen and alder. Aspen sawlogs were 22.7% below their level a year earlier, while grey alder was down 14.2% and black alder 5.6%.<\/p>\n Pulpwood and firewood continue higher<\/strong><\/p>\n Although the strongest movements were outside the sawlog market, pulpwood and energy wood continued to firm. Firewood extended its uninterrupted rise since the start of the year. The average price for 3-metre mixed firewood increased 2.9% in August to \u20ac44.13\/m\u00b3 excluding VAT, the highest level in 42 months. Compared with August 2025, firewood was 11.1% higher.<\/p>\n Sawlog market increasingly split by species<\/strong><\/p>\n The August figures point to a relatively stable softwood sawlog market but a much firmer trend for birch. Birch sawlogs fell to \u20ac95.34\/m\u00b3 in June before rising to \u20ac106.62\/m\u00b3 in July and \u20ac107.62\/m\u00b3 in August. \nOver the past three months, standard pine and spruce sawlog prices were essentially unchanged. The main exception within the conifer category was polewood, where prices rose by more than 30%. Year on year, spruce sawlogs were 4.2% higher, equivalent to an increase of \u20ac4.4\/m\u00b3. Pine sawlogs gained 1.6%. Pine small sawlogs remained the only main softwood assortment below their August 2025 level, down 3.3%.<\/p>\n
\nBirch pulpwood increased 6.9% in August to \u20ac69.40\/m\u00b3 and was 23.9% higher than three months earlier. Pine and spruce pulpwood were both around \u20ac66.13\/m\u00b3.<\/p>\n
\nPine and spruce sawlog prices have moved within a large range through much of 2026, while birch sawlogs recovered sharply during the summer after weakening through the spring.<\/p>\n
\nThis leaves birch back above its January level, while spruce remains the highest-priced standard conifer sawlog assortment at \u20ac109.56\/m\u00b3.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
