Demand for Indian imported logs has risen on the back of firmer domestic demand. However, over the past months the US dollar has strengthened against the rupee which has pushed up landed costs. To maintain a viable business prices in the local market have risen 8-10 %. Importers are still struggling to maintain trade without the full backing of the banks which are still not offering full credit facilities.
