Europe’s wood industry is approaching the final quarter of 2026 without the recovery that many producers, merchants and equipment suppliers expected at the beginning of the year. Construction remains weak across most of the continent, purchasing cycles are short and several traditional export destinations are absorbing less European lumber. At the same time, the supply side is changing more quickly than headline demand figures indicate, as sawmills close, operating schedules are reduced and production becomes increasingly concentrated at larger plants.
