Logging across the European Union may need to fall substantially by the end of the decade if the bloc is to meet its forest carbon sink objectives, according to new research. The study estimates that logging rates would have to decline by around 28% between 2025 and 2030, with considerably larger reductions required in some European regions. The figures are modelling results rather than proposed EU logging restrictions, but they point to potentially significant consequences for forest owners, logging companies and Europe's wood-processing industry.
