China’s timber imports: What happened in the first half of 2026?
China’s demand for imported logs continued to weaken during the first half of 2026, extending a decline that has become an increasingly important feature of the global timber market. Customs data show that the country imported 15.88 million cubic metres of logs between January and June, down 5% from the same period of 2025, as subdued construction activity, cautious purchasing and adequate port inventories limited demand for raw material.
